Looking back on my journey, it’s incredible to think that my humble beginnings in a Thai refugee camp could lead me to a life of such opportunity and purpose. The generosity of Catholic Charities, which sponsored my family’s resettlement in America, instilled in me a lasting sense of responsibility to give back and serve my community.

The chain of events that started with my father’s recruitment by the CIA to fight in the Secret War of Laos led to opportunities in education, careers, and experiences that can only be described as the American Dream.
I am a father to three beautiful daughters, and that role has been the greatest privilege and responsibility of my life. Through every season, moments of joy, uncertainty, growth, and challenge, we persevered together. We faced obstacles that tested our patience and resolve, yet each hurdle strengthened our bond and deepened our understanding of one another.
Along the way, I learned that true prosperity is not measured solely by financial success, but by the character we build, the values we uphold, and the love we cultivate within our home. Fatherhood taught me resilience, accountability, and the importance of leading by example. It showed me that commitment is not just about providing, but about being present, consistent, and intentional every single day.
Watching my daughters grow into strong, compassionate, and determined individuals has reinforced my belief that perseverance and unity can overcome even the toughest trials. Together, we discovered that prosperity begins with faith, hard work, and an unwavering dedication to family.

Twenty years ago, I was called to serve. I started as a grassroots organizer. I realized that to be heard and to make a difference required participation in civic engagement with my fellow neighbors. Since then, I have continued to volunteer, advocate, and champion democratic candidates. In my leadership roles, I CHAmpioned the voices of BIPOC, LGBTQ+, women, and families.

Minnesota defined for me what it means to be American.
My early public education at Webster Magnet Elementary School in St. Paul, as a newly arrived refugee, instilled in me the importance of a strong, well-rounded foundation. The additional guidance and mentorship I received through the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts gave me a deep sense of belonging and practical life skills that continue to shape me today. Together, those experiences built the groundwork for who I’ve become—a small business owner, farmer, golf coach, and legislator.

My childhood home, an apartment on the second floor of the adult book store at the corner of Dale and University, motivated me to work hard. In 1996, we chose to make our home in Woodbury for its excellent schools, safe neighborhoods, and close-knit community. It was here that we started our family.

One of the greatest lessons I learned was from a stalwart figure in the St. Paul Rondo neighborhood. On my daily walk to and from school, I passed Tiger Jack and his candy shack on Dale street. Those days every penny found on the streets mattered. For only two cents, you could purchase a Now & Later. I came to understand much later that it wasn’t about the candy shack, the Now & Later, or the money.
Tiger Jack was dedicated to the most vulnerable members in the community. For two cents, he made me feel important and valued.

I carry forward his commitment to serving the marginalized, which drives my dedication to ensuring every voice is heard.
am inspired every day by the strength of my physically disabled niece, who is both deaf and blind; by loved ones courageously facing mental health challenges; and by friends and family adapting to all that the past few years have disrupted. I also hold close the memory of those we lost to COVID. Their courage and resilience give me the strength and optimism to help build a better tomorrow that works for all of us.
Here at home in Minnesota, we’ve seen our communities tested in recent months as federal immigration enforcement operations, including controversial ICE actions under Operation Metro Surge, have sparked deep concern across the Twin Cities and beyond about accountability, safety, and civil rights.
Protests, legal challenges, and community mobilization in response have highlighted how important it is for all voices to be heard, especially those most affected by policy decisions.
It is these personal and public stories, of resilience in the face of adversity, of community organizing, and of hope for justice and unity, that inspire me to keep working toward solutions that uplift every family, every neighbor, and every Minnesotan.
As your legislator, I will draw on my experiences to champion practical, common-sense laws that strengthen our communities and promote health, well-being, and opportunity for all.
I hope to earn your trust and your vote so I can continue being a strong, dedicated voice for you at the Minnesota State House, proudly representing District 47B.
